What a Hospital Website Costs in India in 2026
A serious hospital or healthcare website in India costs Rs. 2,50,000 to Rs. 10,00,000 in 2026. A single multi-speciality hospital usually lands between Rs. 3,00,000 and Rs. 5,50,000. A chain with several units, a central doctor directory, booking and report access starts near Rs. 6,00,000.
For hospitals in Pune specifically, see hospital website development in Pune.
That spread is not vendor greed. A hospital site is the public front end of a regulated service, it usually has to speak to a hospital information system, and it handles data Indian law now treats seriously. Under Rs. 1,00,000 buys a template that emails the marketing inbox, fine for a two doctor clinic and wrong for anyone with an admissions desk.
| Organisation | Build cost | Included |
|---|---|---|
| Single clinic or polyclinic | Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 | Informational site, enquiry form, maps tie-in |
| Single multi-speciality hospital | Rs. 3,00,000 to Rs. 5,50,000 | Department and doctor pages, booking requests, packages |
| Hospital chain, 3 to 10 units | Rs. 6,00,000 to Rs. 10,00,000 | Above plus unit pages, two or three languages, report access |
| Diagnostic or pathology chain | Rs. 4,50,000 to Rs. 9,00,000 | Test catalogue, home collection booking, centre locator |
| Healthtech product or patient portal | Rs. 8,00,000 upward | System integration, accounts, payments, audit logging |
What Actually Moves the Number
Four things. Integration: a form that emails a coordinator costs a fraction of one that writes a confirmed slot into your HIS. Unit count, where the tenth location should cost far less than the second. Language, because each one is content production and clinical review. And compliance, the line item most vendors leave out. All figures exclude GST at 18 percent.
The Pages a Hospital Site Cannot Ship Without
Patients arrive with one of four intents: find a doctor, understand a condition, book or enquire, or reach emergency services. Build in that order. The ambulance number belongs in the header of every page as a tappable link. This is the most common failure on Indian hospital sites, and a one hour fix.
Department and Speciality Pages
One page per speciality, written or reviewed by that department’s clinical lead: what it treats, the facilities available, which consultants sit there, what to expect at a first visit. This is your entire organic search surface, because people search for conditions, not hospital names. Write them as information, not persuasion.
The Doctor Directory, Credentials and Schedules
The directory is the highest traffic section and the hardest to keep correct. Each profile needs name, registration details as they appear in the state medical council register, qualifications, speciality, languages spoken, the units where the doctor consults, and OPD timings. Qualifications must be stated exactly as awarded, with no invented abbreviations. Schedules must be editable by the OPD coordinator without a developer, because they change weekly.
Booking, Pre-Admission and the Insurance Question
Most Indian hospitals do not need self-service booking on day one. They need a request that lands in a queue with name, number, speciality, preferred slot and source, which a coordinator confirms by phone or WhatsApp inside a defined window. It needs no write access to the HIS. Real-time slot booking is a separate project with a separate budget.
Pre-admission is the section nobody builds and everybody needs: what to bring, fasting instructions, admission timings, deposit policy, room categories with tariffs, discharge process. Every question answered there is a call your front desk does not take.
Insurance, TPA and Cashless Information
Publish the insurers and third party administrators you hold a cashless arrangement with, the documents a patient must carry, the pre-authorisation process, and the insurance desk contact, as structured content you can update rather than a PDF. State which panels you are empanelled with and never imply a claim will be approved. Approval is the insurer’s decision.
Report Download Without Leaking Patient Data
Report access is where healthcare websites get breached. Insist on this pattern: the patient authenticates with an OTP to the registered number, the report is fetched through an authenticated call, and the file is served from a signed link that expires in minutes. No patient ID, UHID, report number or date of birth in the URL. An address like /report?uhid=104822 is an insecure direct object reference, and someone will find it by changing the number. Log every view with who, when and from where.
Health Packages, Published Rates and Accreditation
Preventive health check packages are usually the highest revenue pages on a hospital site. Each needs its own page: inclusions test by test, preparation instructions, duration, who it suits by age and risk, the price, and whether home collection is available. A bundle listed as a name and a price neither sells nor ranks.
Display prices. In states that have adopted the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010, clinical establishments are required to display the rates they charge. NABH for hospitals and NABL for laboratories, both constituent boards of the Quality Council of India, matter to patients who compare hospitals. Show the accredited entity and scope correctly, and take the mark down the day it lapses.
Running One Website for a Chain: Units and Languages
A chain decides early: one website with unit sections, or a site per unit? For almost every Indian chain the answer is one site on one domain, with unit pages beneath it and doctors, departments and packages tagged to units. One domain accumulates all the search authority, and a new hospital becomes a configuration rather than a project. Separate domains split authority and multiply maintenance by the number of units. A consultant who sits at three units must appear on all three without three duplicate profiles.
Multi-Language: What to Translate and What to Skip
Translate the pages that decide something: emergency information, department overviews, health packages, pre-admission instructions, insurance process, contact and directions. Leave the blog and careers listings in English for now. Use human translation reviewed by someone clinical, because machine translated medical content produces sentences that are grammatically fine and clinically wrong. Each language needs its own URL path and language annotation, and the font stack must be tested with real Devanagari at 390 pixels.
The Compliance Layer, Taken Seriously
This section separates a healthcare web vendor from a general one. Three bodies of law touch a hospital website in India, and none of them are optional.
NMC Advertising Rules and the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act
Doctors in India practise under a professional conduct code that restricts advertising and soliciting patients. The National Medical Commission notified revised conduct regulations in 2023 and then placed them in abeyance, leaving the earlier medical council code of ethics as the operative reference. The practical position is largely unchanged: a practitioner may publish factual information about qualifications, speciality and place of practice, and may not solicit patients or use testimonials and comparative claims to attract them. Have your medical director and legal advisor approve the wording, not your agency.
The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 sits on top. It prohibits advertisements suggesting a drug or remedy can diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat or prevent the conditions in its schedule, and prohibits misleading claims about drugs. Breach carries criminal penalties, not merely a takedown.
In practice: no success rates, no cure claims, no before and after imagery presented as a promised outcome, no “best surgeon” or “number one hospital” language, no testimonial functioning as clinical endorsement. If marketing hands you copy containing a percentage, ask for the published source. Usually there is none.
DPDP Act 2023 Obligations for Patient Data
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 changes hospital website economics. Health information is personal data, the hospital is the data fiduciary, and the penalty schedule reaches Rs. 250 crore for failing to take reasonable security safeguards. The rules carry a phased commencement, so confirm current deadlines with counsel. A compliant build looks like this:
- Plain language notice at every collection point: what you collect, why, and how consent is withdrawn. Consent must be specific and separate, not one pre-ticked box.
- No patient identifiers in URLs, analytics events, error logs or third party tag payloads.
- Signed, expiring links for anything downloadable: reports, prescriptions, discharge summaries, invoices.
- Verifiable parental consent for a patient under eighteen, and no behavioural tracking or targeted advertising directed at children.
- A named contact for data questions, a working grievance route, and the ability to access, correct and erase data.
- A breach response path that can notify the Data Protection Board and affected patients, tested rather than documented.
- A retention rule per data type, with deletion actually implemented.
Older law applies alongside: the information technology rules of 2011 classify medical records and history as sensitive personal data.
| Requirement | What it means on the website | Owner |
|---|---|---|
| Medical council conduct code | Factual credentials only, no solicitation or testimonial as proof | Medical director |
| Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954 | No cure or treatment claims for scheduled conditions | Medical director and legal |
| DPDP Act, 2023 | Consent notices, no identifiers in URLs, expiring links, grievance route | Hospital as data fiduciary |
| Clinical Establishments Act, 2010 | Rates displayed, in states that have adopted the Act | Finance and operations |
| Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 | Keyboard access, contrast, real labels, captions, readable type | Web vendor |
HIS or HMS Integration, and Why It Usually Picks the Vendor
The website is the easy half. The hospital already runs a hospital information system, often a separate laboratory system, a PACS and a billing product, and the site must speak to at least one. Ask three questions before shortlisting: does the HIS expose an API, and have you seen the documentation? Who holds the integration contract? And what happens when the HIS is upgraded?
In many Indian hospitals the HIS has no documented API, sits on an on-premise database, and belongs to a vendor who charges separately for access. That is a reason to design a middle layer, a small service holding the mapping between website and HIS, so an upgrade becomes one contained fix instead of a rebuild. Budget Rs. 1,50,000 to Rs. 4,00,000 for it, and get the HIS vendor’s cooperation in writing first.
Where the system is modern, ask for FHIR based exchange and DICOM handling rather than a bespoke export, and align facility and practitioner records with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission registries. If what you need is really a patient portal, price it as custom web application work, not a website.
Accessibility Is a Requirement, Not a Nice to Have
A hospital audience is disproportionately elderly, unwell, anxious and often on a borrowed phone. Accessibility is not a checkbox here, it is the core use case. The legal backdrop is the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which requires service providers to meet accessibility standards, and the technical standard to build to is WCAG 2.2 at level AA.
Concretely: every function reachable by keyboard, visible focus states, strong contrast, real form labels rather than placeholder text, error messages that say what to fix, meaningful alternative text, captions on video, and a base font size an older reader can read. Set mobile inputs at 16 pixels minimum or iPhones zoom on focus and break the booking form. Ask for a named standard inside the scope document.

GST at 18 Percent, and the Input Credit Trap
Website development attracts GST at 18 percent, so a Rs. 5,00,000 build is Rs. 5,90,000 out of the door. The part hospitals miss is the other side. Healthcare services supplied by a clinical establishment are exempt from GST, and exempt output generally blocks the input tax credit on what you paid. For a taxable business the GST is a wash. For a hospital it is usually a genuine cost. Confirm your position with your tax advisor, and read our note on GST on website development services.

How to Buy: Scope, Milestones, Ownership and Support
Eight contract clauses, all non-negotiable at this budget.
- A written scope with a page and module inventory. Not “about 20 pages” but an actual list. Anything not on it is a priced change request.
- Milestones with payment attached. Discovery, design sign-off, build, integration, content load, launch. Never more than a third up front.
- Code and repository ownership in writing. You own the repository, domain, hosting, CMS licences and analytics property, from day one rather than at handover.
- An escape clause. If the vendor disappears you should hold a working repository, a CMS export, an environment document and current credentials. Test it mid-project.
- Change requests priced in advance. Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 2,500 an hour is the normal band for a competent Indian studio in 2026.
- A support SLA with real numbers. Site down, one hour. Security issue, four hours. Content change, two working days. An uptime target and a stated consequence.
- Handover and documentation as a deliverable: environment setup, integration mapping, an editing guide and a recorded walkthrough, tied to a milestone.
- Named people. Who writes the code, and what happens if they leave.

When You Should Not Buy This
If you run a single clinic, a small dental or physiotherapy practice, a two doctor polyclinic or a standalone collection centre, a Rs. 3,00,000 website is a bad investment and any vendor telling you otherwise is selling. Your patients live within a few kilometres and they search on a map, not by browsing websites.
Spend in this order instead. A complete Google Business Profile: correct primary category, a phone number somebody answers, exact opening hours including real OPD timings, photographs of the reception and equipment, services list filled in. Then reviews: ask every satisfied patient at discharge with a printed QR code, and reply to every review including critical ones. Then WhatsApp: a business number, a service catalogue, saved replies for your five most common questions, and a click to chat link everywhere. Finally a small, fast site with address, map, timings, doctor credentials and a booking link.
That package is Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 60,000 and will out-perform a large website for a single location. Commission the full build when you have more than one unit, a formal insurance desk, a corporate or preventive health business to sell, or a real need to publish reports online.
