Inside the build

Every piece here carries the name of the person who made it, the village it came from, and a bar showing exactly how much of your money reaches their hands. It is between 58 and 71 percent, which is roughly three times what the export chain pays.

Choose a craft and this section takes on its colours, its technique and its catalogue. Each one is a different set of hands, a different mohalla, and a different reason it nearly died out.

Where your money actually goes.

The bar under each price is not decoration. Blue is the artisan, brass is us, grey is packing and shipping. Tap the maker's name to meet them.

Some of these families have made the same thing for six generations. Two of the crafts here were down to fewer than thirty working artisans a decade ago.

Twenty-five pieces or two thousand.

Diwali hampers, joining kits, conference gifts. Every box carries a card with the maker's name, which is the part recipients actually keep.

Fair questions.

Real, and auditable. We pay artisans per piece at rates agreed each April with their cooperative, and the split you see is that rate over the retail price. Our margin covers photography, the website, packing, GST and two salaries. The annual note with the actual numbers goes to anyone who asks.
