Travel Agency Website Development Cost in India (2026)

What a travel agency website costs in India in 2026

An enquiry-led travel agency or tour operator website in India typically costs Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 in 2026, and a site with a real booking engine behind it starts near Rs. 4,00,000 and runs past Rs. 20,00,000 once supplier APIs are involved. The difference between those two numbers is not design quality. It is whether the website is allowed to sell a seat or a room on its own, without a human checking first.

Most of what pushes a travel site up its price band is invisible on the homepage: how many packages you carry, whether rates change by season, whether your office can edit those rates without calling a developer, and whether money is collected online. Each of those is a system, not a page. The general logic of website development costs in India still applies here, with travel-specific complications stacked on top.

Budget separately for the recurring side. Hosting, domain, backups and monthly content changes usually land between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 60,000 a year for an enquiry-led site, and considerably more once a booking engine has to stay up through peak season.

Enquiry-led site or live booking engine: be honest about which you need

A booking engine is a promise. When a customer pays and receives a confirmation number, you have committed to a seat, a room or a vehicle that must actually exist. If you do not hold that inventory under contract, or cannot check it in real time, the website will cheerfully sell something you then have to unsell, and unselling costs you a refund, a bad review and a reputation.

Most Indian agencies sell customised holidays, not shelf products. The itinerary changes after the first phone call: hotel category, dates, number of travellers, meal plan, whether the elderly parents can manage the trek day. That conversation is where the margin lives, and a booking engine cannot have it.

So start enquiry-led. The site’s job is to present packages properly, capture a qualified enquiry and put it in front of a human within minutes. Add live booking later, and only for products where the inventory is genuinely yours: fixed-departure group tours with a seat count you control, day tours and activities, or your own rooms if you run a homestay or hotel.

The second reason to stage it is money. An enquiry-led site can be live in a few weeks and start returning leads while the booking engine is still being scoped. Building both at once means paying for the harder half before you know which packages actually sell.

Package and itinerary pages that actually convert

One package, one URL

Every package needs its own page with its own address, title and description. PDFs hanging off a contact page cannot be found by search, cannot be shared cleanly on WhatsApp, and cannot be corrected without re-uploading the whole file. If your packages live inside PDFs today, turning them into real pages is the highest-return change available, and it is ordinary website development work rather than anything exotic.

The first screen has to answer four things

Destination and duration, what the price starts from, what is included at a glance, and one obvious way to enquire. The hero video, the long founder’s note and the badges row can all wait until further down. If a visitor has to scroll to learn how many nights the package runs, the page is built wrong.

Inclusions and exclusions, both

Operators love writing inclusions and quietly skip exclusions. Exclusions are exactly what prevents an argument on day three: airfare, monument entry fees, early check-in, personal expenses, taxes, and seasonal add-ons like ropeway or permit charges. Write them as a plain list on every package page. It costs nothing and removes most post-sale disputes.

Day-wise, but scannable

Day-wise itineraries should be collapsible and readable on a phone held in one hand. Add hotel category rather than named hotels unless you hold a contract, a route map, the months the destination is best visited, and a short line on who the trip suits. A four-field enquiry form asking name, phone, travel month and number of travellers will out-pull a ten-field form; the rest belongs on the call.

Seasonal pricing, and why hardcoded prices age badly

Travel pricing moves constantly. Hotel contracting resets every season, airfares shift week to week, and a hill-station package in May is a different product from the same package in January. If those rates are typed straight into the page by a developer, three things follow: the rates go stale, the office stops trusting the website, and eventually a customer walks in holding a screenshot of a price you no longer honour.

Build prices as data, not as text. In practice that means an admin panel where each package carries per-season slabs, per-pax slabs because rates for two, four and six travellers are never the same, a validity date, and a visible “rates valid till” line on the page itself. Your staff should be able to change a rate in under a minute without raising a support ticket.

If your rates genuinely cannot be published, which is common in B2B and for premium custom trips, publish a starting-from price and say plainly that the final figure depends on dates and hotel category. What you must never do is publish an exact price you will not stand behind.

This is also the cheapest insurance against rate leakage to competitors. A rate that expires on a stated date is a rate you can revise without looking dishonest.

Taking money: advance, balance and the refund page you cannot skip

For tours, demanding full payment upfront is unusual and usually unnecessary. The normal pattern is a booking advance, either a fixed amount or a percentage, collected online to lock the enquiry, with the balance due a set number of days before departure. Take the advance by card or UPI where convenience wins the sale, and take large balances by bank transfer so you are not paying gateway commission on a Rs. 2,00,000 ticket.

The moment you accept an online payment, you need real policy pages: cancellation and refund terms with day-wise slabs, terms of service, a privacy policy, and a contact page carrying a verifiable address and phone number. Payment gateways look for these during onboarding, and the slabs are what protect you when a family cancels eleven days before departure and expects everything back.

Settle invoicing and tax treatment with your accountant before launch, not after the first booking. Tour operator billing does not behave like selling a product online, and the way tax is shown on the package page should match the way the invoice is raised. Mechanically, online collection sits close to ecommerce website costs, which is precisely why booking-enabled travel sites land in a higher band than brochure sites.

Supplier and API integrations: what they really add

Connecting flight, hotel, bus or car suppliers is where travel projects quietly double in both cost and calendar. Commercial terms, deposits and access conditions are negotiated directly with each supplier and vary widely, so treat any figure your developer quotes as the build cost only, never the total cost of the connection.

As a planning rule, expect roughly Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 4,00,000 of development work per major integration, and three to eight weeks each. A large share of that is waiting: credentials, sandbox access, test bookings, certification, then production keys. Running two integrations side by side rarely halves the calendar, because the same small team handles both mappings.

The expensive part is never the happy path. It is the failure handling. What does the site show when the supplier times out mid-search? What happens when the fare changes between search and payment? How does a cancellation raised on your site get pushed back to the supplier, and how are bookings reconciled every morning against what the supplier thinks it sold? Skipping that work produces the classic complaint of money debited and booking not confirmed. This is custom software territory rather than website territory, and it should be scoped, tested and priced that way.

WhatsApp is where travel enquiries actually close

Travel enquiries do not respect office hours, and very few people want an email thread about their honeymoon. Treat the website form as the top of the funnel and WhatsApp as the room where the deal is actually discussed.

Two practical measures. First, put a click-to-chat button on every package page with the package name pre-filled in the message, so your agent knows what the person is looking at before typing a word. Second, run a shared team inbox instead of one salesperson’s personal phone, otherwise leads die when that person is on leave and three agents end up replying to the same enquiry with three different rates.

Our own WhatsApp CRM, ZupiChat, is built for this: Starter is free forever, Growth is Rs. 999/month for three WhatsApp numbers and three team members, and Enterprise is Rs. 2,499/month with unlimited agents. There is no separate free trial, because the free plan is the trial, and API access is included on every plan. It runs on the official WhatsApp Business Platform, and Meta’s own per-message charges are billed by Meta to your WhatsApp Business Account with no markup added.

What the quote leaves out: photos, words, hosting and maintenance

Photos and licensing

A travel website is mostly photographs, and this is where agencies quietly take on legal risk. Lifting images from another operator’s site, a hotel’s page or somebody’s social feed is infringement, and demand notices over stock photography are routine in India. Either licence images properly, shoot your own, or use supplier photographs you have written permission to use. Guest photographs need the guest’s consent, particularly where faces are recognisable.

Words

Itinerary copy copied between operators is identical across hundreds of websites, so search engines have no reason to prefer yours. Original per-package writing, covering what the drive is actually like, which day is tiring and where the crowds are, is both the ranking asset and the sales pitch. Plan it as a costed line item, and pair it with proper SEO work rather than hoping the pages rank on their own.

Hosting and maintenance

Image-heavy sites need sensible hosting, compressed modern image formats and a CDN. Cheap shared hosting buckles under uncompressed hero images, and a slow package page on a mobile connection is a lost enquiry. Maintenance is not optional for travel either, because the content itself expires: seasonal rates, sold-out departures, changed policies, plus security patches and backups. Our website maintenance cost guide covers what a sensible annual retainer includes.

Price bands and timelines for 2026

These are market ranges for India in 2026, not a quote. Where you land inside a band depends on package count, how much of the pricing logic is automated, and how much original photography and writing has to be produced.

Tier What it includes Typical cost Timeline
Brochure site 6 to 10 packages as fixed pages, enquiry form, WhatsApp button, basic on-page SEO Rs. 45,000 to Rs. 90,000 2 to 3 weeks
Package site with admin panel Unlimited packages, seasonal and per-pax rate slabs, destination pages, blog, lead capture Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 4 to 7 weeks
Site plus online advance collection Payment gateway, advance and balance tracking, invoices, coupons, policy pages, CRM handoff Rs. 2,00,000 to Rs. 4,00,000 6 to 10 weeks
Booking engine on your own inventory Fixed departures with live seat counts, date-wise availability, cancellations, refunds, reporting Rs. 4,00,000 to Rs. 9,00,000 3 to 5 months
Supplier API aggregation Flight, hotel or bus supplier connections, markup rules, B2B agent logins, reconciliation Rs. 8,00,000 to Rs. 20,00,000 and above 5 to 9 months

Two warnings on timelines. Supplier approvals and gateway onboarding are outside your developer’s control, so build slack into any launch date tied to a season. And never schedule a booking-engine go-live in the fortnight before your peak booking window.

Where to start

Pick the enquiry-led tier, insist that every rate lives in an admin panel rather than in the page, publish your cancellation slabs on day one, and route every enquiry into WhatsApp with the package name attached. That combination is affordable, ships in weeks, and is the foundation a booking engine can be added to later without a rebuild.
