SEO Cost in Pune: The Short Answer
SEO in Pune costs Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 20,000 a month for local SEO on a single location, Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 60,000 for competitive city-wide work, and Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 or more for national or ecommerce campaigns. Add 18% GST. Below Rs. 8,000 you are not buying SEO; you are buying a report.
The problem with SEO pricing is that the deliverable is invisible. Two agencies can charge Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 50,000 and both say the words on-page, off-page and technical. This article explains what actually differs.
What each band buys you
| Band | Monthly (excl. GST) | What is really being done | Right for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local SEO | Rs. 8,000 – Rs. 20,000 | Google Business Profile management, local citations, on-page work on a handful of service pages, a few reviews a month, basic technical fixes | Clinic, salon, restaurant, single-branch service business competing within a few kilometres |
| City-wide SEO | Rs. 25,000 – Rs. 60,000 | Keyword and competitor research, technical audit and fixes, two to four content pieces a month, internal linking, earned links, monthly analysis | Service business competing across Pune, multi-location clinics, B2B firms |
| National / ecommerce | Rs. 70,000 – Rs. 1,50,000+ | Content team, programmatic or category-level SEO, digital PR and link acquisition, developer time for site changes, conversion work | Ecommerce, SaaS, national service brands |
The jump between bands is mostly people. Local SEO is one part-time executive. City-wide adds a strategist, a writer and some developer hours. National adds a team. That is the entire explanation for the price difference.
Where the money goes
An honest Rs. 40,000 monthly retainer in Pune breaks down roughly like this.
- Strategy and analysis, about 15%. Deciding what to work on. The most valuable and least visible part.
- Content, about 35%. Research, writing, editing and publishing. This is usually the largest line and the one clients most often try to cut.
- Technical, about 20%. Site speed, crawlability, schema, internal linking, fixing what the developer broke.
- Links and digital PR, about 20%. The slowest and hardest part, and the one that separates agencies that move rankings from agencies that publish blogs.
- Reporting and account management, about 10%. Necessary, but should not be the biggest number.
If an agency cannot tell you roughly how a retainer splits, that is a useful signal by itself.
Red flags in cheap packages
Pune has a large market for Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 6,000 SEO packages. Here is what is actually happening at that price.
- Guaranteed rankings. Nobody controls Google. A guarantee means the keywords chosen are ones with no competition and no buyers.
- Hundreds of directory submissions. These links have been worthless for over a decade and can trigger problems in volume.
- Keyword rank reports only. No traffic, no conversions, no revenue. Ranking for a term nobody searches is easy to achieve and worth nothing.
- Spun or AI-dumped content. Thin pages published at volume. We have seen Pune sites lose over a hundred indexed pages this way, and recovery takes months.
- No access to your own accounts. If you cannot log into your Search Console and Analytics, you cannot verify anything you are told.
The uncomfortable truth: a business with Rs. 5,000 a month is usually better off saving it for one quarter and paying for a single proper technical and content fix than paying for twelve months of theatre.
What you should get every month
Regardless of band, a monthly report should show these five things. If it does not, ask why.
- Organic sessions and conversions from Analytics, compared to the previous period.
- Impressions, clicks, CTR and average position from Search Console, which is the only ranking data that is actually yours.
- Which pages moved, and the agency’s explanation of why.
- Work completed, itemised: pages published, technical fixes shipped, links earned.
- What is planned next month, with a reason.
Note that average position moving up is not automatically bad news. A site publishing new content gains impressions on many new low-position queries, which pulls the average down while total visibility rises. A good agency explains that; a poor one hides it.
SEO or Google Ads?
This is the question most Pune business owners actually want answered, and the honest reply is that they solve different problems.
Ads deliver traffic today and stop the day the card declines. SEO delivers nothing for months and then keeps returning after the invoice stops. If you need leads this quarter, start with ads. If you want a channel that does not bill you per click in three years, start SEO now and be patient. Most businesses should do both, weighted by how urgent the pipeline is.

Questions to ask before you sign
- Who exactly works on my account, and how many hours a month?
- How does the retainer split across content, technical and links?
- Will I have owner access to Search Console, Analytics and my Business Profile?
- What did you achieve for a business like mine, and can I see the Search Console data rather than a screenshot of rankings?
- What happens to the work if I leave, and who owns the content?
The fifth question matters more than people realise. Content written for you should stay yours.
Our view
SEO is not expensive relative to what it returns; it is expensive relative to how long it takes. That gap is where most of the disappointment lives. A business that commits for twelve months at Rs. 30,000 will almost always do better than one that spends Rs. 60,000 for four months and quits when the graph is still flat.
Pick a band you can sustain for a year. Insist on real reporting. And treat any guarantee as a reason to walk away. If you want a second opinion on a proposal you have received, we are happy to look at it and tell you plainly whether the scope matches the price – our digital marketing services page explains how we work.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does SEO cost per month in Pune?
Local SEO for a single-location business runs Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 20,000 a month. Competitive city-wide SEO for a service business sits between Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 60,000. National or ecommerce SEO with content production and digital PR runs Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1,50,000 and above. Add 18% GST. Anything under Rs. 8,000 is almost always automated reporting with no real work behind it.
How long before SEO shows results?
Technical fixes and on-page work can show movement in four to eight weeks. Meaningful ranking change on competitive commercial terms takes four to eight months, and that assumes consistent content and link building throughout. Anyone promising page one in thirty days is either targeting keywords nobody searches or planning to use tactics that get sites penalised.
Is a Rs. 5,000 SEO package worth it?
Almost never. At that price there is no budget for a strategist, a writer or a developer, so what you receive is automated directory submissions, spun content and a monthly rank report. The directory links are worthless at best and harmful at worst. A business with a small budget is better served by spending three months of that money on one solid technical and content fix.
What should a monthly SEO report contain?
Organic sessions and conversions from Google Analytics, impressions, clicks and average position from Search Console, the specific pages that moved and why, work completed during the month, and what is planned next. A report that shows only keyword rankings, with no traffic or conversion data, is designed to look good rather than to inform.
Should I pay for SEO or Google Ads?
Ads buy traffic immediately and stop the day you stop paying. SEO compounds slowly and keeps returning after the spend ends. Most Pune businesses should run ads for immediate leads while building SEO for the following year, rather than treating it as a choice. If you can only afford one and you need leads this quarter, start with ads.
